DIAD, Pathway Cooks Event

DIAD and the New Member Committee shared responsibilities in a 2-day project for Pathways Cooks on Tuesday, November 8th from 12:30pm – 5:30pm and Wednesday, November 9th from 12:30pm – 6:00pm at the Connection for Women & Families facility in Summit. The shifts were open to league members on Tuesday and the New Member Committee on Wednesday. We prepped and prepared 4 meals for Women receiving chemotherapy and their immediate family members. The colorful healthy meals included soups, salads, side dishes, desserts, chicken, fish, and one hearty vegetarian dish. Some of the New Members also had the fulfilling experience of delivering the meals to the recipients’ homes.

The DIAD Committee partnered with the Youth Shelter on Tuesday and one of the young residents and her supervisor helped us mark and organize the containers to be filled and delivered on Wednesday.
Pathways Cooks is a unique, community-based program that involves the cooking and delivery of nutrient-rich and organic meals to women undergoing chemotherapy in Union, Essex and Morris counties. In addition to meals, Pathways Cooks provides educational programs geared toward understanding food and its relationship to health and wellness.

This was a very rewarding 2-day event; all of the volunteers were delighted to participate in such a worthwhile experience.
