Rock My Boat!
So, my son woke up the day after Thanksgiving and said "Happy Black Friday." I seriously almost died of laughter. The funniest part is that he's seven. At this point, Toys'R'Us is the key to Christmas. But as we get older, yes, we are getting older, toys don't really rock our boats. It takes a little more than Legos, Barbies and Pokemon cards to make us kick up our heels with glee. And, as luck would have it, the Junior League is sponsoring THREE of these events this week! The boutique started Monday, November 26 and will continue through December 26 at the Nearly New Shop. It is open during store hours, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm as long as inventory lasts. The Holiday Boutique includes NEW hostess gifts and NEW toys, so come by and get through your holiday shopping list today. (The Nearly New Shop is located behind the Community Theater at 7 King Place in Morristown)Sip 'n Shop:

Last year, I did 75% of my holiday shopping at this event, and I bought a eclectic bag for myself. The committee is promising this year's expo is even better! Do little boys have it right?
Is it that those toddler boys, obsessed with trucks of all kinds had it right? Does everything good come in a truck?
Lately, it seems they are right.
Have you noticed that bucket trucks have become a symbol of hope? When they show up, power goes on, cable starts up or the internet comes back to life. No matter how long it has taken, you have to admit the excitement when you saw one on your street. Bucket trucks of hope.
Do you know another place we have seen hope? At the Nearly New Shop (NNS). Over the past two days, we have had several people come in for clothing, not for themselves, but to help someone in need. They are coming in for a simple array of winter essentials (boots, coats, gloves, hats) and then donating them. (Where they are put into a TRUCK and delivered to those in need.)
See, all good things come in Trucks! So, stop by the NNS and let's fill up a truck with winter attire for those who are still waiting for the Bucket Truck of Hope to arrive.

Let It Snow!
Seeing as I am from Minnesota, I thought with this new storm coming up the coast, I would share one of my favorite blizzard games with you: SNOWBALL BASEBALL.It's easy, there are no rules and only fun. You need a minimum of 2 people to play with no maximum. If you are able to get your neighborhood to play, send a pic!What you need:kid shovel or a baseball batwaterproof mittens or gloves*** If you have kids, play game as noted, feel free to add alcohol if you want to keep warm the Minnesota way***Here are the rules:1- one player, or two, or three at once make snowballs, really pack them down. These are the pitchers.2- one player bats with the kid shovel or bat. (this player should be in the middle of a huge pile of snow or in the middle of the street)3- throw snowballs like pitches, no need to go one at a time, they can be thrown all together, the goal is to hit the "ball" and watch it explode.So, yes, this is how we have fun in Minnesota!But seriously, be safe, be smart and have fun!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month...the Survivors Among Us
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. You cannot go anywhere without seeing something about the disease. It has become a movement. A beautiful, important, movement which has lead to new technologies, legislation, treatments and supportive resources. We all know someone who has battled, died, survived, is currently in the fight, or we, ourselves may be currently battling this disease. There is a wealth of information available about how this disease ravages bodies, kills mothers, sisters, daughters and changes families forever. Yes, this does happen, and it happens a lot, but what I personally think needs be shared, are the stories of survivors and the personal interactions that have made the difference to this one person and how it helped this person survive. I would like to spend this month honoring the survivors among us, in the Junior League of Morristown, I know you are out there. Each week, I will put up a story of survival and how you made it through. If you want to remain anonymous, no problem here, but I think the inspiration is what we all need to hear.To start us off, I'll share my story: I want you to know that I am 38 and a three time breast cancer survivor. I survived because of the people who loved me and know me the best. It has been a five year ordeal, 15 surgeries, 4 cycles of chemo, radiation and the list goes on and on. During this time, the random things my friends and family did were the things that kept me going. Because honestly, Thomas (hubby) and I had two goals which were to get me healthy and give Jakob (my them 2 year old) a "normal" childhood. We were buried in the monotony of managing a disease along with life. Let me tell you, it took a army of people to get us to where we are today, healthy and as normal as can be expected, but the blips from my friends were what helped keep me fighting. For example, one of my friends mailed me a tumbleweed he had caught in Arizona and spent $20 mailing it to me. Another friend, who was a tour manager had SEAL (yes, the one now divorced from Heidi Klum) send me a t-shirt and she dictated my thank you note to him. Another friend sent people magazine, need I say more? and then my very best friend drove up from Texas to me in Minnesota and sat with me for hours…on the floor. We all made it, and we are stronger, but there is always a little thing in the back of my head saying "check, check, check."In order to end this on a light note, I have come up with some things to say to survivors that you know REALLY WELL:1- Wow, your boobs looks great! Did you have work done recently…. (by the way, did you know you can choose perky or saggy boobs when doing reconstruction? Who knew?)2- I will love you through thick and thin. (this also works for balding men, unfortunately they usually don't take it as well as a chemo patient)Thank you for sharing your time with me. Have a wonderful week and send me your stories. Nearly New Shop and the Mighty Margarita
I was over at the nearly new shop this weekend (as I was sadly leaving Super Saturday early to morph into my soccer-mom state) and saw these fabulous margarita glasses on display. I LOVE margaritas and have been told on many occasions that this is the only thing I can cook. So to entice you to go buy these glasses, I am going to give you my recipe, and you can go buy the glasses and send me a photo of you enjoying them along with the outfit you will more than likely pick-up when in the shop.Kelly's Margarita Recipe:Ingredients:Margarita mix (I really like Costco's Kirkland brand, not only is it cheap, but it really tastes amazing)Tequila (Please use yummy tequila, like Patron or Jose Cuervo)Triple Sec (The cheap kind, not the expensive)Instructions for 2:In a pitcher or large tumbler mix 8 oz of margarita mix, 4 oz of Tequila and 2 oz of Triple Sec. Add ice, put in straw and taste. Then tweak as needed. Enjoy
Welcome New Member Class
Super Saturday was held last weekend and it was a tremendous success. I was very lucky, because I was invited to join them in the morning. And honestly, I was impressed the day served as a great introduction to the league. It was clear, concise, engaging, informative and ended at Oktoberfest at George and Martha's. Be warned... this class is a group of movers and shakers! I cannot wait to see the great things they do this year!

Angelina Ballerina Tea Party
The Junior League of Morristown, Inc.
(JLM) is pleased to host a first of its kind event in Morristown April 20-22,
2012, a tea party and dance with Angelina Ballerina®. The event will be a fundraiser with proceeds to benefit JLM’s
leadership development and community programs, as well as projects that directly
impact the Morris County area.
Angelina Ballerina fans will enjoy tea
time, dancing, wand-making, storytelling and more. The highlight will be a dance with Angelina Ballerina
herself. There will also be a special Father-Daughter dinner event featuring
Angelina Ballerina on April 21 where dads and their daughters will dance
together.
“We are thrilled to be able to host
this event and bring such a beloved character to Morris County,” said Maryann
Eget, President of the Junior League of Morristown. “Not only will we be able to host a fun family event, we will be
able to use the proceeds to make a difference in the community. The Junior
