DIAD prepared a semi-homemade lunch of tuna, ham and egg salad sandwiches, chicken soup and ginger snap cookies and served the lunch to 40 invited guests who included the Alzheimer’s patients and their families. The speaker was Lucy Deutch from Family Services who gave advice to caregivers on geriatric care management. DIAD partnered with the Morris County Youth Shelter and 2 young girls and their supervisor assisted the Alzheimer’s patients with sing-a-longs and percussion musical bells. Small tokens of appreciation were given to the caregivers from our JLM Adopt-a-Grandparent inventory and we decorated the tables with pumpkins and gourds as centerpieces and used fall color table cloths to make it festive.
The Joint Venture was an overwhelming success! The FSMC Director thought this was the most successful of their Lunch and Listen series. She received compliments on the food, and how attentive the volunteers were to both the clients and caregivers.
