The DIAD Military Support Event, “Stories of Heroes: An Evening for Young People at Picatinny Arsenal”, was held on Wednesday, April 21st. The main event was storytelling by professional storyteller, Tom Lee who told two stories to a group of younger children and their parents, followed by a story delivered to the older children. There were lots of laughter and giggles among the younger set as they listened to stories about a little girl and her animal friends visiting her grandmother for the night, and a little boy hiding in a peanut as he waited for his grandfather to take him fishing. The older children were engrossed in a mythological tale and were asked to predict the outcome of certain aspects of the story. In addition to the storytelling, JLM volunteers worked with the children on creating collages that depicted their own vision of heroes in their lives. The parents especially enjoyed not having to cook after a long day at work, as a ziti dinner was served during the event. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the evening and was very appreciative to the JLM for providing this fun event. Thank you to all our volunteers and to Jean Sorabella for coordinating such a fabulous event!
